A CTBTO regional workshop for Russian-speaking National Data Centers was held in Ashgabat
A regional workshop and integrated training session for Russian-speaking National Data Centers (NDCs) was held in Ashgabat from June 8 to 12, 2026. The event was organized by the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization in cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan, the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, and the National Data Center of Turkmenistan. The event brought together experts from Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Eastern Europe.
During the workshop, specialists received training on methods for accessing and analyzing data from the International Monitoring System, worked with the SeisComP and Geotool software packages, and exchanged experiences among National Data Centers. Particular attention was paid to capacity building in the field of monitoring and the application of modern technologies for processing seismic data.
The workshop was held during a visit to Turkmenistan by the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, who took part in events marking the 30-th anniversary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
Specialists from Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia, Armenia, and Kazakhstan participated in the regional workshop and integrated training session. During the event, participants improved their skills in working with data from the International Monitoring System and modern software tools for analyzing seismic information.

Regional workshop and comprehensive CTBTO training in Ashgabat
The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), in cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan, the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, and the National Data Center (NDC) of Turkmenistan, held a regional workshop and comprehensive training session for National Data Centers in Ashgabat. The event took place from June 8 to 12, 2026, and brought together 25 participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The main objective of the event was to strengthen the capacity of National Data Centers and improve the effective use of data from the International Monitoring System (IMS) and products from the International Data Center (IDC) to support the verification regime of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).
The workshop coincided with a visit by Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the CTBTO, to Ashgabat, where he participated in a high-level meeting marking the 30-th anniversary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. During his visit, Robert Floyd met with workshop participants and discussed the role of National Data Centers in supporting the CTBT global verification system.
As part of the program, participants received training on accessing and analyzing IMS data, working with the “NDC-in-a-Box” software, and using the SeisComP and Geotool seismic analysis tools. In addition, the participants visited the National Data Center of Turkmenistan, where they learned about its operation and the information and analytical systems it uses.
