“Kurchatov-Cross” seismic array (KURK, AS058)
The auxiliary seismic array of the International Monitoring System (IMS) “Kurchatov-Cross” (KURK, AS058) is located at East-Kazakhstan area near Kurchatov town. 80% of the array elements territory are effusive-sedimentary formations of Carboniferous period frequently overlapped by cover of friable Cenozoic deposits of different thickness.
“Kurchatov-Cross” seismic array represents two intersecting linear lines of equipment boreholes with seismic sensors (seismic array sheme). Lines extension azimuths: 10°(meridian line, KUR1-KUR10) and 320° (east-west line, KUR11-KUR20). Length of each line is ~22,5 km. Each line has 10 equipment boreholes (sites) with a common central site at the place of lines intersection. Average distance between the sites of the lines is ~ 2,25 km . Vertical seismometers CMG-3V (KUR1-KUR20) are installed in the boreholes. CMG-3TB seismometer is installed at the center (KUR21, KUR BB). All seismometers were manufactured by Guralp Company. Recording instruments are 24-bit ADC Europa-T (Nanometrics). Sample rate: 40 samples/sec/channel. Seismic data are digitized according to GPS. In December 2006 the station was certified by the IMS commission as a primary IMS station.
Response and phase characteristics of the seismometers installed at the station are here.

Communication system of “Kurchatov-Cross” seismic array (KURK, AS058)
Information from remote sites of the seismic array is transferred via radiotelemetric channels to the Central Recording Facility – CRF. Further, via satellite channel the information is forwarded to the International Data Center in Vienna. The second data stream from all remote sites is transferred via KUR01 to local data acquisition facility – TS2.
From the IDC (Vienna) seismic information is transferred to KNDC (Almaty). |
