Participation of KNDC IGR NNC specialists in the International School for Young Seismologists – 2026, Tashkent, Uzbekistan

From 24 to 28 August 2026, the International Scientific and Practical Conference “School for Young Seismologists – 2026” was held in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, organised by the G. A. Mavlyanov Institute of Seismology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Scientists and specialists in the fields of seismology and geophysics from CIS countries took part in the School. The KNDC of the Institute of Geophysical Research of the National Nuclear Centre of the Republic of Kazakhstan was represented by Asem Issagali and Nazym Onaybek.

Asem Issagali took part in the opening of the event as a representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan from the country’s scientific community within the framework of this international forum for young seismologists.

As part of the scientific programme, Nazym Onaybek delivered a presentation entitled “Cryoseismological studies to investigate the dynamics of glaciers in the High Tien Shan”. The presentation outlined the results of applying seismological methods to study dynamic processes in the glacial massifs of the High Tien Shan, the characteristics of recording cryoseismic events, and the potential for using the data obtained to investigate the condition and dynamics of glaciers.

Asem Issagali delivered a presentation entitled "A Comprehensive Assessment of Seismicity in Western Kazakhstan Based on Geological, Geophysical and Seismological Data". The presentation showed the results of seismicity studies in Western Kazakhstan using a combination of geological, geophysical and seismological data, and examined the characteristics of the spatial distribution of seismic events and issues relating to the assessment of seismic hazard in the region.

Participation in the International School for Young Seismologists enabled the IGR NNC RK specialists to present the results of their ongoing research, exchange experiences with colleagues from other countries, familiarise themselves with modern scientific approaches and expand their professional networks.

At the conclusion of the event, participants were awarded certificates confirming their attendance at the International School for Young Seismologists – 2026.
